Been lurking here a while, until I got my 8N, picked it up yesterday and played with her all day. Great forum and a good bunch of fellows here. I'm an old Ford gearhead but tractors are pretty new to me so expect some newbie questions! StuK

Welcome to ow-N-ership of your 8N.

The most important lesson I can give about the N series tractor is this. Always remember how much fun it is to drive that tractor.

Here is why...

One of these days it will probably not be running and you will be scratching your head because you can't figure out what is wrong and you will be thinking how much cheaper a for sale sign is than another coil and how one of these days the EPA is going to fine you for all the fluid leaks, and the only thing that will keep your head above the frustration is remembering how much fun it is to drive that tractor.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

Thanks guys,

Bought the tractor off a fellow who had had it since '77. He was a mechanic who rebuilt the motor and has maintained it very well mechanically. Original wheels and new rubber but the rears have been repaired somewhat, due to calcium corrosion. It needs some cosmetics paint etc but is all there and fairly straight. He built a home made cab as he used it for snowblowing. It is well done but I'll modify it to be removable. SN is 8N307952 which makes it a '50 with the side distributor. The deal was the tractor, 5 foot snowblower,5 foot scraper blade and a Ford 916A belly finish mower that has been modified to a three point attachment. Tractor has original lights(on aftermarket or homemade brackets) as well as a taillight and rear work light (the rear light still has it's winged bracket) I got the IT FO-4 manual and an original 1952 operator manual ( The IT book has price tag of $4.99 on it!)I also have a spark plug tire pump but I don't think it is an original Ford part. Tool box is there as it has the original 6V generator. Took some regular pics today I'll try to get digital ones soon.

Tractor will be a worker albeit a pampered one. I have 10 acres and will need it to bushhog 2 acre paddocks and scrape and level for a poly house for the wifes flower growing endeavours. ( She has her toys so I get mine! Great how it works huh?) Plans will be to clean and paint eventually. Some remedial work on the grill and lights are needed just to stop them from further rust damage.

Funny story is, about 20 years ago a mechanic I worked with goes "here kid your a Ford guy, here's an old wrench with FORD on it". I still have that wrench and only realised it was an N series tool last month! The two will be reunited soon!

Well here I go head first! Thanks again! StuK

Hello Stewuart: Tell us all about your 8N. If possible show us a pic before you start improving it.I think an N vestment is one of the best you can make. Have fun and enjoy it...R.M. In Al.

Welcome. Ask question, make comments, have fun. Tell us a little bit about your tractor, model, year, what you plan to use it for. Once again Welcome.
