You may want to invest in a "Zane Thang". (see item at top of page) I didn't have one when I was hoggin'. It will help with thick stuff so you can keep the hog up a little. I think I ended up twistin my PTO shaft. I have since purchased a "Zane Thang". I will be using it sometime this month.

Yes, you'll want a gasket on the large drain plugs. If a replacement gasket is not readily available, a replacement can be cut from some gasket material. Gasket material is readily available at most farm/home stores and auto parts store. Also, don't be afraid to use some teflon tape on threads, especially on the smaller rear drain plug. As for oil/fluid, I've gone to 80/90w gear oil. This, too, can be easily obtained at most farm/home stores and purchased in a five gallon, easy to pour pail.

The ORC is also at most farm/home stores and cost between $50-$65.

Lastly, spend $20-$30 for a set of chain level limiters/stabilizers. When properly set, the chains, not your 3pt lift, will carry the weight of the mower.

Hey Pat
I use a 5 ft hog on my 9n and it works out fine.
DON'T hog without your orc. I bought my orc from just 8n's .Think it 60 something. You might need to get one that goes 1 1/8 inch (for your pto shaft) to 1 3/8 inch (to connect to the hog) hope this helps....
be safe!!!!

Hi Pat:

#1..Gaskets....yes you need gaskets, I have a 52 8-N and the SAME gasket fits all the LARGE drain plugs (TRANNY AND ENGINE OIL). DON'T REFILL OILS WITHOUT NEW GASKETS OR YOU'LL HAVE LEAKIES ALL OVER DA PLACE. I suggest even using teflon tape on all threaded plugs.

#2..If your tractor has excellent (I mean like new) working hydraulic system. 134-D hydraulic oil is for you. But if old "snort" (your tractor) is like most old tractors, suggust you use heavier hydraulic oil. Go to a oils supply dealer, NOT Kmart, T&C or Meijers, tell them what your using it in. Good Luck.

#3..O.R.C. cost $60 to $70 Some one else will have to help ya here...I think there is different sizes for the P.T.O..... ....The best to ya.....

If your tractor is good and tight in the hydraulics, #134 hydraulic oil is ok. I had to change to Shell dentax 80/90 wt. mineral oil, from the NH dealer, because the 134 got too thin to hold the hog up in really hot weather. My #.02

It will do great. In very tall or thick grass, you may have to keep the hog high, and then make a 2nd pass. Unweighted tires in my experience don't make any difference with a hog. Untill a couple of months ago, I farmed with unweighted tires for 30 years.
