I need to run a small 12 volt sprayer from my n It has a three brush generator. Is it possible to put the generator in series with the 6v battery to make 12volts. Not charging the battery while spraying should not be a factor since the battery alone will keep the tractor running for uite some time.I can't think of a reason this wold not work.

I think your idea could work, the problem is the generator is held to 6 volts by the battery. Doing what you want would leave no control on the generator. It would put out more than 6 volts. You would probably fry the sprayer. Then you could get another control for the generator to keep it a 6 volts. Again as said a good deep cycle 12 volt battery would work best. Probably last pretty long on a charge. What's the ampere draw on the sprayer? Sears deep cycle batteries are 105 amp hour.

DC current can't be transformed. Actually it can but it would not be worth it. His best bet is to get a deep cycle marine battery and a charger. He can also convert to 12 volt. His reason is one of the fiew reasons to do so. Still better off with a battery and charger. He could also make up a Rube Goldberg and use a small AC gas generator and a battery charger to power the pump.

Just buy a 12-volt battery and a charger and hook it up to your sprayer. Use it til it runs down and then recharge it at night.

I don't want to but a new batter and charger.
Just was wondering if there were any reasons this would not work.

You gots a twelve volt battery in the pick up or in momma's car, or in the lawn tractor right? You can't drive both at once, right? What's the problem?

Your mileage may vary

I'm not an engineer, but I think a battery is a storage device and a generator is, well, a generating device. I don't think putting a 6 volt generator in series with a 6 volt battery will give you 12 volts. If you put 12 volts into your 6 volt battery, you'll have a melt-down. That's why these things have voltage regulators, 3-brush variables, cut-outs, etc. Why not rig a transformer to step the 6 volts up to 12?
I still think a $30.00 battery and $15.00 charger is cheaper than a $100 starter. But, like I say, I'm not an engineer.
