We have an 8n Ford Tractor we use at Yampa Valley Baptist church and it keeps losing the fire to the coil. We have changed coil, points, condenser, the wire going into distributor from coil. It seems there is always juice to the coil primary side the small wires but not to the secondary. You can mess with it for awhile and then fire comes back, it runs for awhile then quits.

The insulator that Mountainman is talking about the fiber insulator where the wire enters into the distributor. This could be of an intermittent nature. The voltages on the side mount are easy to remember, always 6 volts regardless of point position. (This is because there is no ballast resistor)

Ed is right, first check the ignition (key) switch by jumping around it. But it sounds as though you have a sidemount distributor so check the archives for the voltage values at the coil - they are different for front mount and side mount coils.
Is there an insulator inside the distributor that has gone bad?
Are your points opening and closing properly? Have they slipped since you installed them? (common problem)
Make sure all your connections are clean and tight.

I was advised a little while ago to check the voltage at the coil with points open and closed. Open, it should be 6.3 volts. Closed it should be 3.5 or there abouts. Check the voltage next time it happens.

A possible culprit is the ignition switch warming up and dropping the voltage going to the resistor. Another possibility is the resistor being too stuborn and dropping the voltage too low to the coil. Right now I am expieriencing the latter. I jumped across my ignition switch and was still getting 2.2 volts with points closed. I have a new resistor on the way and we will see what that does.
