Well, My Lift cover is now all disassembled, old bushings removed and clean as a whistle, The new bushings should be in tomorrow, My question is, sholud I put a coat of grease on the new bushings when I install the rocker shaft?
When I took it apart and washed it, it looked like 50 year old grease on the inside of the pin and bushing???

Thanks

later,dave

My 2 cents is grease the heck out of them. Water infiltration is the big problem. They turn so slowly that my guess is that dirt, if it did find it's way in there, would be less of a problem. I used a "waterproof" grease, which is what they call the grease for jet skis. It resists salt water as well. I don't have a water sled but used it successfully on dirt bikes for years. Also use anti-seize on the splines for the ram and lift arms and when you get it all back together grease up between the lift arms and the cover.

Eric:

You bring up a good and often overlooked point: a can or tube of antiseize is one of the most important assembly tools. If you had to heat it and bang on it to get it apart, put antiseize on it before putting it back together. Makes getting it apart easier. Same with bolts, nuts, plugs, etc. Great stuff and highly underrated.

Dave,

My memory is probably failing me but I thought I'd read somewhere where it wasn't good to grease the bushings. Dirt would collect on there and screw up the bushings faster than without grease. So....Bones...am I...loosing..my..mind! :-)

I say dip them suckers in a little Coors Lite and that's all the lubrication you need. After all, that's all the lube that ole Dave#Coors needs, right?
