8N owners, I'm looking at a 24" KingKutter dirt scoop. It might be an affordable substite for a front loader for my purposes i.e. moving small amounts of loose dirt and rock.

I've checked the archives and gotten some good ideas there including trip mechanisms.

My big concern is getting the scoop attached to my 8N three point. My KK hog required some minor modifications before I got it hooked up properly. But, it's a great mower.

Do any of you have additional advice or opinions on the scoop?

Thanks

Bob

Just reading the comments on the dirt scoop for the 3 ph. The question I have does anyone know if these are available in Canada? The information given on this board, seems like they would be a nice tool to own. I would be interested in making a purchase if available in Canada, the exchange rate if purchased in U.S. usually at least doubles the cost. Some one did mention that plans are available to purchase and build your own scoop. If some one could steer me in the right direction, would be appreciated. Thanks for all your previous assistance. Murray

The implement I use most often on my dad's 9N is the 36" rear dirt scoop. It's wonderful for filling in holes due to erosion, etc. It's also great for just hauling things around. I.E. --a roto-tiller, push mower, etc. I would definaately suggest buying a scoop that is reversable. --one that can be installed with the cutting edge toward the front or back of the tractor. Hope this helps!

Richard, I can't remember for sure, but I think they cost about $200 at our Iowa TSC for the 24" model. Hang on - I'll check it out right now with a phone call - tick tick tick- my friend Dick at our TSC says they are $225 for the 24" and $229 for the 30" model. How much are they out your way?

about that, but they were about $189 last fall, and I am kicking myself about it now.

It's Saturday noon in Iowa and I just finished the last of the brush cutting by hand. More fun to ride the 8N but the path was to steep and narrow.

Yes - seems like a lot of prices have been creeping up. The KingKutter boys probably noticed that the higher priced name brands have gone up so they do the same. My cable internet connection jumped $5/ recently. I see grocery items go up frequently now, as do various service fees. Electricity and fuel increases have put lots in folks in a budget crunch. Farmers that use a lot of energy for crop production and drying really take it in the shorts. The big shots in Washington tell us that inflation is low, but I don't think they have to live in the real world. After all, if you make a million a year do you even notice if gas goes up 25 cents per gallon?

Oh well, it's still a great country and my wife and my 8N don't ask for much. Hope I don't have to pick one over the other.

I have 24" scoop on my 8N. Works great except occasionally when I have a LOT of rock, it can be difficult to trip. I learned a trick which was to lower the scoop, pull the trip rope then raise the scoop to dump.
I'll have to check the archives for the mod to make tripping easier.
When I take my bush hog off, I use the top link from it to hook onto my scoop. I do have to adjust it, but that is why it has threads and is easy to change.

Bob....I don't own a KK, but a rear scoop is really handy. You can do a lot. I modified mine to make it easier to trip, if you search the archives you will see the modification.

I use mine all the time. Anyone want a free wheelbarrow?

Take Care
Steve

Bob, I have a 30" KK scoop along with a front end loader on by NAA.
The scoop is narrower then my front bucket, so it can get into narrower places, but the digging dept is limited. Several, small passes are it's strength IMO.
I tried digging a stump out with it, but could only get down 20" or so and had to use the front end loader for the rest of the job.
Good luck

I have a 36" KK. Love it and would recommend the bigger size. No problem at all to hook up.

I have a KK scoop on my 8N right now. Went on with no modifications. It is a handy unit. I use it sometimes when I don't want to fire up the 4000 diesel with front end loader. It has limitations but seems to be well built. I've used it behind my 850 and did not bend. I think of and use it as my little 'dump truck'. fwiw, ray
