Finally got around to doing a few jobs today I've been putting off and and, of course, none of them went according to plan.

1. Replaced a broken distributor cap clip (front mount). Bought a couple of NOS from Don B. some time back when one of mine broke. Been working OK with duct tape and the pressure from the coil clip to hold it in place. Anyway, if you ever replace one, test it with the distributor cap BEFORE you put it back on the engine. A new one needs a little tweaking with some pliers to go on easily. Not a big job to take the dist back off, just annoying. Especially when you can't wait to get out there and mow in 95 F heat.

2. If you decide to put one of those nice battery covers Don B. sells on your 8N, be sure you have the flat braided positive ground cable for your battery, and make sure the negative cable doesn't have a 90 degree bend at the terminal clamp. Once you deal with those little items it's a neat looking piece. The one I have is painted in the gray color but I thought I read somewhere they were red. Anyway the gray color is a dead ringer match for the Tisco Ford Medium Gray I painted my 8N with.

3. When you change your oil, make sure the filter cover is tight with a good seal. Started up and noticed the oil pressure was a couple of pounds light. Jumped off and sure enough, oil was spraying out of the cover. Never had that happen before, except on my boat when I left the old rubber gasket on by mistake. Two gaskets are one too many.

Anyway, got the mowing done before all life died from the heat. My wife went out a few minutes ago to trim with the little JD and came back in 5 minutes...YIKES, too hot out there. Such is summer in piedmont NC. Hope to see some of you tomorrow at the Southern Threshers Reunion in Denton,NC. I'll be the guy with the sunburn and glazed eyes.

Don
