Anyone have any ideas on what to look at first? My trans locked up when I went to do some bushhogging. First I thought it was the mower but was still locked after it was disconnected. Once pto was disengaged could drive with no problem. tried pto again it would turn but was lugging the engine bad. should I look at pto side or inside the tranny first?

there is only one cure...a tranny-lumpta-metric.

Unfortunately, A tractor split and tranny rebuild is probably in your future. Its been done many times by the unexperienced, including ol'horsefarmers whose idea of repair is bailing wire and a bigger hammer..... ..Dell (grin)

Mike,
You mention that everything is fine without the mower hooked up. Do you use a ORC? could you have hit something with the mower and bent the PTO shaft? Does the PTO shaft turn freely without the mower attached? Does the PTO have a wobble to it?

If worse comes to worse, drop the front of the tractor in a ditch and pull the PTO. Four bolts, piece of cake. Lets hope it isn't bent.

Eliminate everything it isn't, and whatever is left is the cause!

PTO shaft doesn't appear to have a wobble to it. It felt like it was free when I turned it with pto disengaged but was jerky when turned by the engine which is why I was wondering if it was the coupling for the pto or the transmission
