Hey guys, neighbor called and said his Jube was running poorly. Said it will run for about 10 minutes then sputter and die. He can keep it running if he chokes it but has very little power. What do you all think? Fuel starvation is my best guess but someone may have a beter idea. Have not had time to run down and look at it yet but suggestions will help when I do get over there. Again, thanks for any help.

tom
ps; soon as I borrow a digital camera I hope to post pics of my project

When my Jub did that several years back it was the coil. Sure acted like fuel starvation at first. Ya got to see it first hand. ray

This exact same thing happened to me with my Jubilee. I was convinced that I had thorougly checked the fuel flow and did so about 3 times -- just like everyone will tell you to do on this board. But this is my first tractor, so I didn't really know how fast the fuel should flow out of the line. It turns out that a small red plastic "nib" had somehow worked its way into the sediment bowl assembly and was stuck in there pretty good. Best I can figure is that it was a piece that broke off from one of those red plastic gas containers when somebody was filling the tank. After that was removed, things were back to normal.

Is your tank rusted? When I pulled mine off, the inside was really rusted over, and there was a lot of loose rust/dirt in there also. If this is a problem for you, you might want to try one of the gas tank sealing kits that POR-15 or Eastwood sell. I used the POR-15 kit and am very pleased with the results.

Zane and Dell are the experts - in fact they helped me solve the same kind of problem with my Jubilee. They told me to check a loose intake manifold. Sure nuff. Retorque the bolts. It runs for about ten minutes because that's how long it takes to get the manifold hot and allow it to start sucking air. So you have to choke it to compensate. Hope that helps.

Tom..... .sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Have your friend pull the fuel line at the carb elbow. Should flow, not piddle.

But don't rule out the possiblility of a bad ignition switch. Jumper the ignition switch next time he has problems and if'n they go a way, you'll know what to do. BTW 10-15 mins is just about the run time for a bad ignition switch to make itself known..... .Dell

Sounds like some foriegn material in places that Henry didn't intend for it to be in the fuel system. Many places to look. Look at them all!

Screen in the tank above the bowl.

The screen in the top of the bowl.

The screen in the elbow at the inlet of the carburetor.

The bottom of the carburetor around the high speed orifice.

The high speed fuel nozzle.

Just to name a few!

Gentlemen, thanks for the input. I will check the fuel system first. One question Del, I am not sure what you mean by jumping the ignition switch. Could you please describe this procedure?
again thanks
tom

Had the same problem with my NAA a month back. It was fuel flow. One quick way to tell is to remove fuel line and blow back into tank. Won't fix problem of crap on bottom of tank, but will blow it out of the way temporarily.

Lay it on the ground and get a run. Just kidding. Bypass the switch with a small wire and two clips. If you can't trace the wire, connect the jumper between the top starboard post and the bottom post on the resistor block.
