Looks ike i have a 2n rad on my 8n? Has a 2N marking on the side. Also has a tiny 1/8" hole in the neck of the top pipe( where the rad cap goes).

So I assume this is a "umpressurized" rad? Or should i fill the tine hole with JB Weld and continue on? Any pros /cons to pressureized vs unpressurized? Anybody run without a thermostat?

Small hole is where the overflow tube should be brazed on.

It should be pressurized. The pressurized radiator came with 2N model in '42.

The cooling system is designed to operate with a cap that relieves pressure between 3.75 and 4.25 lbs psi. This will allow the coolant to reach 212 degrees without boiling. When I lived in Florida, I never ran with thermostats. If you live in cold climates (especially in Alberta) it would behoove you to run a thermostat. This will allow the engine to reach operating temperature quickly. You should check the thermostat in a pot of water being heated on the stove. Should open at 160/165 and be fully open at 190/200.

Have run without a thermostat for years. There is one on the rad but it is so loose it does not do anything but keep me dry when doing rough work. The engine never gets hotter than it should and keeps on tickin'.
