I have new 12 volt lights, but no wiring. Only the short wire from the sealed beam to the light assembly(ground). Does anyone know how to wire up these lights properly? Wire type? fuse?,light switch? Where do you connect the wire up to?
Thanks!

I did mine as already described. I ran my wires over to the spark plug wire tube (I have a frnt mount) and ty-wrapped it neatly to the top of that. then onto my inline fuse block which I got @ my local auto parts store, then to a switch on the dash.

This the way I did it. I ran a wire from the bat connection on the voltage regulator to a switch I mounted on the right side of the tractor, the hole was already there (NAA). If you make sure the base of the light has good contract with ground (since you are saying 12 volt lights, I'm assuming the tractor has been converted to negative ground like an automobile). I then ran a wire from the other side of the switch to the wire coming from the light and that is it. did the same thing for a work light on the right rear fender. If you open up the light itself you will actually see two wires. One is wired to the case and hence becomes the ground connection. Check the archives, I believe someone submitted a drawing about it.

Ken..... the trick to good electrical wiring, do it like the professionals.

Use terminal lugs, 14 ga stranded automotive wire, DO NOT WIRE thru your ignition switch, it doesn't have the ampacity. The typical tractor headlight switch has a built in fuse, use it.

I wire each headlight with 2 wires because in these old tractors, there is really not good sheetmetal continuity for quality ground return to the battery. Inotherwords, I'd replace your short wire with a long wire that goes back to the real battery ground connection.

It doesn't matter which headlight terminal goes to the switch, headlights are ambi-polarity. Just secure the wires with plastic ty-wraps so they don't go floppin'round and gettin' caught in sumptin.

The are lotts of web pages with electrical diagrams, do a search. But it is really very simple project, just be professional about it, do it with pride and do it right..... .Dell

I agree with Dell. I tried to run just one wire and use the headlight housing as the ground, like Henry had it, and I couldn't make it work. Run 2 wires like Dell says, but you will have to drill out the headlight mounting post that connects to the tractor, since the hole is just a little too small to run 2 wires thru. I ran the ground wire on each side down the tractor side panel and connected it to the big bolt on the lower side of the grill, the bolt that holds the grill and side panel together. My $.02
