OK Guys... I 've been looking at alot of different paints in the last couple of weeks, some of which has ranged as much as $133 dollars a gallon (Dupont / Matain Senour), or as little as $17 a gallon(TSC / CT). I saw Tisco paint, and a gallon of red acrylic enamal is $45 dollars, and a gallon of light gray is $40 dollars. I like the price, but I was wondering about quality. My tracor is going to be a work tractor, and it will be kept in a garage so it shouldn't fade to fast. How is this paint in reguards to gas being spilled on it, and it's over all tuff-ness? How easy is it to apply? Thanks for any info...

I used Tisco paint on my 8N a couple of years ago. It was my first paint job and I didn't do a great job, but the paint itself did fine. I always say "The secret to life is looking good from a distance", and that's what I got with my paint job. (Actually I think Charlie Brown said that originally.)

I used the "Ford Medium Gray" and an International red that had the same Tisco number as recommended in the Ford Originality Guide book. Sorry don't have the numbers handy. I have had no problems with peeling, fading, or gas attacks so far, and it hardened up pretty good, not too easy to scratch. One good thing about the Tisco is that you can buy it by the gallon and in rattle cans for touchup.

There's some pictures at the link below, so you can see the colors. Good luck with the project.

Don,

Your tractor looks nice! Thanks for the reply. I have a couple questions though, did you use a hardener and mix it with the paint? Did you use a reducer also when you sprayed the paint? Thanks for any additional info.

Keith,
Yes, I used both. Also a little clearcoat in the last coat. But I was experimenting and following some "how to" instructions from the board here and the ATIS board and some books. This is a work tractor and I didn't try to make it look new. If you know somebody who's had a lot of experience, I'd recommend talking to them. Also, the cast parts are pretty forgiving but the sheet metal is going to look only as good as you straighten it or bondo it, or whatever it takes.

Check the archives here if you haven't already. There's been a lot written about painting over the years.

One other comment...be sure you get the Tisco Ford Medium Gray if you go the Tisco route. It has the beige tint of the original paint. The other Tisco grays are too dark or light.
