What are the symtoms to a bad king pin and bushing. Everything seems tight but my 52 8N did come with the shroud cut away in one spot. I'm in the process of doing some other work and have the hood and radiator off so the access is easy. Thanks..... Doug

Are we talking about the center pin in the front axle or does your tractor have kingpins.. My tractor needs a new axle pin too how hard is the replacement of this pin???

I found my new one at CT. Should be able to get one at any place that sells N parts.

Another sign is radius rods that bend upward or are beginning to bend upward. I used to presume that these bends were caused by riding up over a a stump, log or other obstacle. I' ve learned a worm kingpin is often the cause. Mike-Iowa

If you have occasion to drive your N diagonally across a shallow ditch or other such terrain, the front axle will swivel to its maximum range. If the kingpin or bushing are worn the axle will hit the fan shroud(if it's still there), causing the fazn to hit the shroud with a horrendous clattering noise. Or if it's a front-mount distributor, it may break the cap. If neither of these things happens, the kingpin/bushing isn't that bad....yet.

If the king pin/bushing fit is tight and there is no noticeable yaw, wobble or excessive fore and aft movement of the center axle, you're probably O.K.
