friend of mine has a R T I, his first tractor and plans to use it around his 8 acre farm just east of lake ozark mo. 10 mi. he got the starter, generator, carb and magneto rebuit and does not know how to put the magneto back. i think he said it's a faribanks morse, i told him i would post a message here and give him the info when he calls later. i know how to time a flange mount and base mount but not a distributor mount and do not know how to find tdc on a R or Z ----- -WALT IN JACKSON TN.

Walt, I have an RTI. There are a couple of ways to do this. One is to take off the side cover on the engine and watch the number one piston for the T.D.C. or you can look for the timeing marks on the flywheel through the inspection hole. You might have to lightly sand the flywheel to see them though the hole. Once found set it to the mark. It will be a pointer casting on the left side of the hole. Then set your mag. and put into place just like it was a distributor.
