UTS?

We have a (1944?) UTS we are restoring. The ID tag says the model is a UTS but the SN# is 319894 as near as we can make out. That doesn't agree with the information I found at this site. It is much closer to the 1944 UT and very unlike any UTS numbers. The engine # is 551569F. Can someone please help us out? Also what would a rough value be? Thanks for your time and help.

Richard,
You have a 1944 UTS. Most serial number lists lump all the U models together but I've got one that breaks them all out by front end type. They made 2118 UTS in 1944. Yours should be one of the last UTS with crown fenders. They switched to clam shell fenders with serial # 320094. Your UTS was built in a group of 798 consecutive UTS tractors from 319246 to 320043. There were 2 other batches of UTS built in 1944. 400 units w/ serials 318513 to 318912 and 920 units w/ serials 320094 to 321013. Your engine was built in 1944 also by its serial number (1944 KEF 549519-552998). There were a lot of UTS built. Value is tough to nail down. I've seen running originals for $500-1000. Once you restore it - who knows. Good luck and enjoy!

All the earlier model U types were combined in the same serial number list, be they UTU, UTS, UTI, etc. thru at least 1947. Your tractor is indeed a 1944. M-M lumped all the R types together this way, but they separated the Z Standards from the row crops in their serial number lists - go figure. Hope this helps. Value is too subjective to give even a ball park figure without knowing some particulars about your particular tractor.
