How can u tell the difference between a uts special and just a uts? I just bought a uts diesel and i was wondering if it was a special. Thanks

Its real simple to tell if you have a UTS SPECIAL. If the serial number starts: 0121 it is. Any other numbers: it is not. Respectfully, Charles

That's not necessarily true. All UTS from mid 1952 and on started with "0121". Only 01214126 to 01215150 are Specials.

On a Special:

The front casting has a power cylinder hole similar to a 5 Star.

The grill is flat similar to a ZA, ZB, GTB or GB

There is a piece of sheet metal wrapped around the top of the front casting to hide the power steering cylinder.

UTS Special is a standard tractor with a non adjustable wide front end, optional power steering and still has a hand clutch. UB Special is row crop tractor as John described above with a foot clutch - same as it's UB predecessor. UTS Special has large wheatland rear fenders similar to a GB.

I bought a 52 UTS LP that had those fenders on it, did any of that model and year come with the wide flat tops like a GB?

My parts book shows that a few very late 1955 UTS tractors had the large fenders from serial # 01213626 and later. The Specials came out in 1956 starting with serial # 01214126. It looks like maybe some late 1955 UTS diesels had the large fenders too. If yours is a 1952 it should have had the clamshell fenders. I think the big fenders really make them stand out as long as you've got a tire that will fill the fender.

BMG, Thanks for the info. I did take the larger fenders off and put on clamshells. The tractor has 18.4 x 30 tires on it that did fill up the flat tops but I think it looks even better with the big tires and the clamshells. There is a pic of in the gallery under 52 UTS, Keith in TX. Took last winter (2001).
