Moline Engines in Onan or Katolight Generators?

Happy Independence Day! Just a thought, since I work as a mechanic for Cummins/Onan: did Minneapolis-Moline ever sell engines to either Onan or Katolight for use in generator sets?

The veterans home in Grand Island, Ne has a MM HD504 gen set. There is also a MM HD425 also in town at a local business. Don't know who set them up. or who built them.

Don't know but heard an interesting tale about MM's on generators once. Seems that this little town in Georgia?-maybe- put in electricity before REA (Rural Electric Act)ran electric wires all over the country.

I was told the MM power units on their generators had special oil pans with trap doors in the bottom. They also had an oil reservoir on the side of the engine.

When it was time to change oil, the reservoir was filled with new oil. The mechanic pulled a lever that opened the trap door and all the old oil gushed out the bottom, it was slammed shut and the fresh oil in the reservoir was allowed to run in. They never shut the engines down except for maintenance.

Can any of you guys out there confirm this story? It seems far out-but the old guy who told me sure had fun with it.

Had an uncle that used to change oil in MM power units without shutting them down(not under load of course), pulled his tractors to start with his Mercury car, and mixed distillate fuel with gas in his Piper Cub.
