Hello guys!

I am having trouble keeping my 1949 Util in time. We have replaced all the electrical and ignition parts and rebuilt the carb and purged the fuel system. However, the timing seems to be jumping. According to the information that I have, this engine has timing gears and not a chain, so I don't suspect that it's jumping there. My only guess is that the distributor gear is worn and that it could be jumping time there. Any suggestions?

Tom

Its pretty easy to check the distribuitor gear: just remove the bolts holding the distribuitor adapter in the timing cover/waterpump housing and pull distribuitor, coil and all upward. one bolt goes in the top and one comes up from the bottom.

If your gear is worn out, check to see if the shaft turns freely in the distribuitor and look in the hole to make sure the gear on the waterpump shaft is o.k.
