Hi ! I'm looking at a Minneapolis R Tractor. The tractor has a wide adjustable front end on it.
According to the serial number it is an RTU model.
But a fellow I know told me that wide adjustable front ends were known as the RTE. Does anyone know if the RTU tractor was available with a wide front? Any help would be gratly appreiciated.

thanks Steve

Steve,
The RTE was made from 1947 to 1953 and carried its own unique serial numbers. Does it say RTU on the serial number tag? The 1947 models (only 12 made) had serial numbers that are commonly listed with RTU production (420845-420856 are 1947 RTE models). I'm not aware of Moline putting the extendable wide front on the pre 1947 R models but anything is possible. More likely someone has replaced the narrow front end with an E type front end. Does this tractor have a Moline wide front end or an aftermarket type? Moline's were a flat type front axle made of plate steel welded into an assembly. Aftermarket wide fronts were typically a round tube type axle. Some aftermarket kits were made to fit onto narrow front tractors. These kits left the original narrow front end and adapted it to steer the new wide front end.
