R clutch grabing

when i engage the clutch on my r it grabs but only in first or reverse the high gears are fine does any one know if i can ajust this out i tried to seat it in buy working it hard in the higher gear and slip it but only helped some.

Mike,
The only time I've seen clutches grab was when they had a small amount of oil or grease on them.
Seems like I was told once that they also tend to grab when they get really badly worn.

I seated one in on a Chevy pickup once by putting it against a big tree and slipping the clutch, but I don't reccomend you try this with your R.

I also 'cooked' the oil out of a clutch lining on a MM V once-set it on a piece of sheetmetal on a hotplate at 300-400 degrees and literally let it stay 'til it quit smoking. That's kinda risky, too, because if it doesn't work, you'll have to split the tractor to get to the clutch again.

Your best bet is to try to come up with some clutch linings for it. jetstar.minneapolis-moline.com has a list of parts suppliers who could probably help you.

You also need to try to determine where the oil or grease came from that got on your clutch. Was the pilot bearing heavily greased when it was installed?
