i have a friend with a 706 fwd. i have just bought a 708 fwd for cheap, in very good restorable con.
whats the difference between the two tractors? is it basically a decal or is there a difference in the rear end? can i put 11.1 or 12.4 tires on the front rims? can a coleman fwd be put on a 900 or 1000? ive looked closeley;there is a casting where it looks like this could be done, but it looks like the casting would have to be cut, drilled and tapped...my friend has a 705 as well and it just had a steel plate over the casting where it looks like the fwd drop box would fit right into. whats the diff in motors on the 706,707,708, 900? it looks like nothing to me. ihave a chance to buy a 900 and would like to swap the fwd, as it has 1000pto as well.did the older models have 1000pto? it doesent look like itthese tractors really pull for 100 horse. i plan to put a 70's factory cab with air/heat on the 708. any help i can get in the difference of the tractors would be helpful.

900 has a 451 motor 705 706 707 708 G1000 and vista and G1050 all have a 504 all 504 tractors have over 100 horse. And fix the 708 don`t mess it

The 706 and 708 are basically the same tractor. I know of no major mechanical differences. The sheet metal was changed to the more modern style on the 708. Just a word on advice regarding the 708, it is a fairly rare MM tractor. I would hate to see it altered in a way that would dramaticaly change its appearance and ultimately its value. As for putting the FWA on the 900, if it is not machined for FWA, it will not be cheap to get the trans. housing machined. Good Luck and congrates on your purchase of the 708.

thanx genlemen foryour comments. the more i think about it the mor i lean towards restoration rather tha alteration:next mission an plainsmen for some heavier work. i farm with antiques. when someone starts making something better,more reiable and just plain cooler i'll maybe think about it. until then, i think less than $ 1200 to get my 708 home is not bad. any more tips/info. any one can give me on my tractor would be appreciated. problem: i want to run an 8650 white pull type combine with my 708. can i change pulleys on the combine, as it is 1000 pto ? iknow i can use a 1:2 ratio gear box, but i'm looking at more than i paid for the combine for such a box. thanx again...
