Coming up on an auction in a week or so. Picture in the paper looks decent. Tractor is supposed to be a factory LP and it has duals on it. Located in south west North Dakota.

What should this tractor be worth? Are they good reliable machines? I need a tractor that is just plain going to run without having to do a lot of fixing. I hope to buy either this or an IH 660 diesel with 3500 hours on it.

Thanks

Steven

Steven,a real nice GVI MM LP ought to be worth $2,000-2500 at the very most.A neighbor used to have one and had good luck with it.I would prefer a GVI LP burner over a diesel. We used to have a M-5 and 445 MM LP burners. You have to watch for cracked heads on the LP tractors. Our M-5 cracked one.Let them cool down after working them hard.

Tom brings up a good point. I have 32 Tractors,
Pickups and Trucks on Lp Gas that are used on a
daily basis. Another 20 tractors in my collection
are on LP. I never think about refuling. It is
something to take into consideration. If you are
in town, refuling will be a problem. Or a county
that is heavily populated, you will need to check
zoneing laws.

If you bring it home you should be prepared to refuel it when necessary. LP refueling is not as easy as other fuels and there are more places to leak. If you want trouble free horsepower, find a diesel Minnie.

For 12 years a G VI was our main tractor. We had
very little trouble with it. Of course there is
very little to go wrong with them. Most people
will claim the brakes not very good on a G VI. If
you will take them apart, clean them, and then
keep them adjusted they will work fine. You need
to remember that both the G VI and the 660 have 40
years experiance in life. You should expect some
problems from either one of them. I have 3 G VI
Molines in my collection. We use them to run a saw
mill. The one we farmed with logged over 200 hours
on the sawmill last year, with no problems.

A lot of GVI LP's were converted to the 504 engine. If this is done and you use the 4210 head it is more prone to crack than the head on the factory 425 engine. I think either one will be more reliable than the IH 660
