WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A u AND A utu ? THEY MADE BOTH MODELS AROUND 47 AND 48 IT APPEARS.

U was the basic model. In some aftermarket parts books it is UT.
UTU was a U shipped from the factory with a narrow, 2-wheel front.
Just to confuse us, MM stamped some serial number tags U and some UTU, in different years, on tractors that basically looked alike. They also redid their serial numbers for the U series at least 3 times. I'm thinking one of the serial no breaks is between 1947 and 1948.
FYI:
UTS is a U with standard tread front end.
UTE is a U with an adjustable wide front end.
UTN is a narrow, 1-wheel front end.
