Oil Filter for an R

I have a friends model R sitting in the shop that came in for a noise in the front of the motor. While inside the motor, I found over an inch of hard sludge in the bottom of the case. Now that the noise has been found and the sludge cleaned out, it is time for a new filter and oil.

The problem is that I cannot find an oil filter. He gave me the end flap of a WIX oil filter box and said it was the last filter he put in it. The number is 51108. Unfortunatly, none of the parts stores can find that filter or cross reference it.

Does anyone have another filter number or know of another source for getting an oil filter for a model R?

Go to a real tractor store and have your local Agco dealer get you a RE5599.

Tell your NAPA store to get you a 1108. That's their number.

Thanks for the info. I had tried the local NAPA, and they said no dice.

Since you both recommended NAPA, I tried another NAPA in another town. They think they will have it by Thursday. Time will tell.

I know whatcha mean. Some of the NAPA stores round here 'don't do tractors' or if its not in the computer they "dont have"/"can't get". My favorite store hands me the book-- "You look it up, we'll order it."

I try to stay out of NAPA. I find they are generally overpriced and generally don't care. Unless I need it right away, I don't even go there. I like Welter's for that kind of stuff. They are Great to work with you.

Yoyr local NAPA store should be able to supply a filter. Just tell them it is for an R Minneapolis-Moline with 165 engine.
