I created a tool to remove the ridge by turning a round piece of brass 4" long to fit loosely in the bore. I milled a slot across the end of the brass and fitted it with a lathe tool that has a set screw behind it. I can adjust the tool with an allen wrench through the intake/exhaust cavity. I tapped a 1/2" hole for a bolt in the bottom side of the brass so I can turn it with a socket. Works great but takes a little time.

The only thing I know of to do is to put two block gaskets under the blocks. That will raze the ring grove up so the new rings don't hit it. I've seen up to three block gaskets under them. But don't take it to a NATPA pull.

How exactly does it do that? I don't see how that would cut down his ring grooves without also loosing most of the rings? I would thing you would want a ridge cutter to rememdy this problem? By the way, why wouldn't you want to take this to that pull (naptha something).

top- head does not really pop right off, plate lets ya get to the valves, jugs- head sorta cast toghter, not much room fer my ridge cutter.he is talkin bout the ring groove at the top of jug-from use, ware. do not want new rings to wack ridge at top of jugs, sometimes bad, makes repair job waste of time+$. the pulling club sees the 1+ gaskets as a mod, they do not like that, just the way the rules are writen?

Exactly!!! Right!!!

You don't remove the ring grove buy putting another block gasket under the blocks you just move it up farther so the new rings can't hit the old ring grove. Short of getting in there with a die grinder and removeing it free hand I don't know what you really could do. Maybe you could spend some $$$$ to have someone try removeing it with a boring bar if you can find someone that can bore it. The added block gasket is the easiest and cheapest way to do it. NATPA is an antique tractor pulling orginazaton that if you pull with will not allow you to do this. They only alow .001 increase in the deck height. If you think about it the orignal block gaskets were thicker than .001 so that rule really DQ's every MM engine that ever cam out of the factory.

I had some success taking the ridge off with a boring bar with a special bit that was for blind cylinders. It was difficult to do and I was'nt completly satisfied with the outcome. I think you could probably send them to a motorcycle shop as a lot of motorcycles also have blind cylinders..good luck
