I just bought a 1935 twin city J tractor from a friend of mine. it needs some work, but its in really good shape. What I want to know about is what color should it be, alot of guys have told me they were supposed to be yellow but I was pretty sure they were gray, can anyone help me out on this?

C. H. Wendel is his "Wendel's Notebook listed the paint color codes for the Minneapolis-Moline Twin City Tractors as: Gray 7190 or 74061. As one possible source for paints, contact your local NAPA supplier for paint, reducer, and hardener.

The early ones were Twin City gray, as I remember, and the really late Js were Prairie Gold. Yours in one of the early ones if it is indeed a 1935 model, so I feel confident that yours is supposed to be TC grey. For paint codes, visit the Message Board at the Unofficial M-M Homepage.

You're right. Most all twin citys were painted grey. With some very late models painted prarie gold. An old dealer in minnesota told me that some were repainted to resemble a newer tractor. Presumably by the dealers. I have no proof of sucj done by MM proper. Also many were painted the wrong color in later years. A yellow J does look quite similar to a Visionlined Z if the J had the side valve engine. I'm working on a book dediccated to the histoy of the Great Minneapolis-Moline Line. Any other questions feel free to ask. If I don't know I'll find out.
