I have a Z crankcase and crank and I also have a good set of 445 jugs and heads. Will they work on the Z crankcase? I want to build a Z puller. Thanks Chris

Hello,
No it wont work, the 445 crankcase is different. In stead of long rocker arms, you have to have push rods and everything. If you get a 445 crankcase then everything will bolt up.

There are some other things to consider.
The water pump on the 445 engine is different, so you will need to come up with one of those too. Also, The bottom radiator outlet on a Z is on the opposite side from the 445 water pump inlet. You will have to work that out somehow. On an early Z you probably can get a radiator shop to move the outlet. On a Z with cast iron bottom radiator tank, you're talking some machine work, or something seriously "rigged."
The exhaust will probably require another hole in the hood, unless you use the downflow exhaust opening in the manifold. (not all manifolds had this option.)
If you use an air cleaner, you probably want to get one of those off a 445 as well. The inlet probably wont line up with the old hole in the hood either.
You'll have to use the Z flywheel to match up with the clutch. I guess the starter hole in the 445 block will match up so you can use your Z starter alright, but don't know.

That r i have with the 445 motor has the r flywheel and you can't run either starter, better to stay with a 445 flywheel so you can use the 445 starter.

Hello,
sounds like you tried this before or have done it.
I have all the parts to put it together and make it look stock, but where i pull they still say stock motor, so you cant put a 445 in a Z, but you sure can drop a D-17 in a WC, i think color has something to do with it.
But anyway good luck and have fun trying
