My power takeoff bar will not move. I removed the pins, the tension cap and spring, magnetized screwdriver lifted the ball. still will not move in or out.Detents look clean etc. There is a metalic sound when I attempted to push the rod in. Any ideas appreciated.

With the engine off, pull the lever as you turn the pto shaft. it should line up and engage within a full turn or so.

If it doesn't, Don't know what the problem is. but its not hard to remove the assembly and inspect it. Its all contained in that rear cover except the shaft that runs up and fits the splines on one of the transmission shafts.

Oh, and either stand the tractor on its nose, or plan to catch about 12 gals of transmission oil.

Thanks, and 12 GALLONS!! Geez I thought the JD A held a lot. I will probably drain it first, then remove that cover this weekend as I have tried turning it by hand (easy to do) and pulling at the same time. My machinst neighbor said he could get it, his dad had one, but no way. Bob
