model # 403a-4 if anybody can tell me the year it would be very helpful, thank you wally

Wallace, you've given us the engine serial No., which is a late 1952. Probably the tractor is a 1952 also. Post your tractor number and we can tell you for sure. Hope this helps. Jim

I have two older models I have just puchased both are lp The engine numbers are 641715a the other is 640875a or is 2583A4 mean more both are
not not able to shift when in motion which really set me apart from any other I have seen.

Wallace,
From Jim's post and your partial serial number above the best I can say is its probably a 1952 by the engine number. Your partial serial number could be anywhere from 1950 to the last year 1954. Here's the serial # rundown
1950 0165000001 to 01601863
1951 01601864 to 01603396
1952 01603397 to 01604889
1953 01604890 to 01605927
1954 01605973 to 01606289

Hope this info helps you figure out the year for yourself.
