Tranny problem

I bought this Z just for doing pulls. My problem is it pops out of 1st gear while pulling. Does anyone know why? What do I need to do to correct this? A friend told me to just hold the gearshift when pulling but since it has a hand clutch, throttle and gearshift and I only have 2 handswhat should I do?

The only way to hold a minnie in gear while pulling is to tarp strap it together, it dont have to be real tight just loop a trap strap from one side of the dash around the gear shift and to the other side of the dash works great, everybody does it.
Hows the big ZA doing pulling, what classes are you running?

Thanks for the advice. It pulls great. I'm in the 4500 pound class. I've only had 3 pulls so far.I'm up against the farmall H's and the like. I have the horsepower but they have lower gearing. I now have my weight up and expect to bring home the trophy this weekend. There's an indoor event for the Deleware State fair. I'll post later about the strap and how I did.

I pulled my '38 ZTU once. 4200 lb class. To get it that light(has Cast wheels-like a J) we grabbed some wrenches and took off about everything we could in a hurry.

It rained the night before, and by my turn at the sled, the clay track was slick as glass-and shiny, too.

Started spinning right off the line. Tires would spin 1/2 turn, bite, move a couple of feet and spin again. Went only about 40 ft. but it was fun.
