Timing my G

Putting my gas 'GTB' back together and have a couple questions about timing it. I have never timed an engine before...so I'm a little green. I have a book and am using the breaker point method to at least get it close before I try to fire the old girl up. Question I have is that the book says to get number 1 piston to TDC (no problem, the heads are still off), then turn the flywheel 3/4" Past the TDC mark, OK, did that. Now the book says to make sure the points are .002 open (after they have been adjusted to .022 at the widest open point). Is this measurement of .002 supposed to be when the points are coming off the 'high ridge' on the distributer shaft? I am assuming so, but don't know for sure. Any other hints from you guys that have done this before will be helpful. Thanks.
