Timing marks

I haven't gotten my service manual yet. I just tuned up my newly aquired 1952 ZAU and can't find the timing marks. I read they're on the flywheel but haven't a clue where. Also the govener linkage is pretty sloppy. Is there a repair kit available and where do I get one?

Mike, if you want to find the TDC mark, remove the front sparkplug and crank the engine over until it blows air from the spark plug hole. (Have a helper crank the engine over slowly with the crank, if you have one.) this will help you locate the area where the TDC mark SHOULD be.(coulda been put 180 deg. off in the last 40+ years.)Then look through the clutch hand hole for the mark. I have looked for the mark and never found it. Then the manual tells you to measure a certain no. of inches around the flywheel to mark the place where ignition should occur. (this is real scientific)

However, If engine is running well, I would probably leave the timing alone. The only time I monkey with the timing is if I put the engine back together, or if I later decide it's wrong.
