What would be considered a good ballpark figure to offer for a late 40's RTU: Missing
1 front wheel, 1 rear wheel flat & rim rusting away, engine stuck in all probability, missing both side panels, rear fenders there but heavily rusted. Obviously, this is a long term restoration project that I'd be sinking money into but I don't want to insult the owner with too lowball an offer, besides his work is tractor repair and he could part it out if he chooses. Thanks in advance.

John, a few years back I purchased 2 R's at a farm sale that sound similar to the one you're looking at. the first one was pretty rough and didn't run..tires junk and needed work, I give $95 for it, the second one was a very early model R, about the same shape with a mounted cultivator, and I give $110 for it. Hope this helps you out..... Josh

John you could probably buy one running for less but I would offer him $200 dollars and thats too much.

Hello
I would offer him to take it away for him and just make him proud that it could still run some day, i bought a 48 rtu that didnt run but was complete for $500, i had to ground the valves and sink $500 into it just to make it run, all for what a under powered tractor to set in my shed, what a mistake dont give him anything for it just get it out of site for him

Thanks to all, on Friday he said $300 for it, though I could probably get it for $250 based on that, it sounds like that is still overpriced! I think I'll make him a lower offer and see what happens.
Then, he also has the 1941 ZTU there that is in better cosmetic shape, asking price $800. Hmmm....
