Had a crack in the manifold of my UB. Ordered a replacement one and it fit well except that I had to made 4 new retention bars as the orginal were too short. Put everything back together and the tractor will hardly run. Am getting old manifold welded and will probably put it back on. Will do some more checking with the new replacemnt one on. Anyone had similar experience, or any advice.
Thanks

In your post you did not mentioned if you took your heads off to replace the intake manifold. What you might have here is a leak around the intake port due to misalignment of the 2-piece heads. This is why the recommended installation procedure for the heads and intake is to torque the intake/exhaust manifolds to the heads before torqueing the heads to the block. This pulls the heads and manifolds into alignment and ensure the manifolds are seated tightly against the heads.

The manifold must have a pin hole in it somewhere letting air in. I had a brand new one that I run on a tractor for a year before I found out that it leaked air. take it back and request a new one.

get it running as best you can and then spray some carb cleaner around the manifold and mating flanges and you'll find your leak.
