what kind of machining will i have to do to put a g crank in a ub bottom? my clubs rules say i have to use the factory base and short blocks. i also want to keep the starter. have to beat those jd g's. the short blocks that were on the tractor are already 4 5/8.

Troy a G crank main bearings and ub are the same but the rod journals need to be turned down to u rod size. Also the big end of the u rod must be narrowed to fit the g rod throw. Since you have to have the rod journals turned down anyway most pullers have the crank offset ground to gain a little more stroke. Welters in MO sell pistons for this setup. But I warn you don't spend alot on this combo. It's fine for the 3.5 mph classes but if you want to go faster it's not near big enough.

Hey Moline Man! You were talking about the g crank situation in the ub block and its lack there of. In your opinion were would you go with this set up??? G jugs, rods, crank ect ect. Just curiouse I have a U and was contemplateing this same issue. And whats the story on those pistons from welters??? Are they one off units or another MM piston ect. Any info would be a great help Thanks Turbine Dude.

It all depends on the rules. If you can get away with the G blocks it may be cheaper to find an old G and just swap it all over blocks, rods, crank, studs, pushrods and pistons. It will all bolt right on. But if you want to keep the short blocks for the stealth effect you need shorter rods and pistons to go with the extra stroke. Welters pistons are 4 3/4 + .060 so you need to start off with 4 5/8 blocks to be able to bore that far. Also GMC 401 V6 pistons are 4 7/8 with 1 1/4 pins just like the U rods. You can make shims for under the blocks or take some material off the top of the pistons to make everything work. Don't know much but I'll help if I can.

No. I would call Matt Gall at Motec Enginering, Tipton IN 765-963-6628 Last time I talked to him he said he was doing over 300 tractor carbs a year so if anyone would know he should.
