I'm an 8n man myself but i have a friend that has a MM in the back 40.He has no idea what model or year it is.It's missing the rear axles and all tires.I don't know where to look on a MM for s/n to id but i can give some #'s i found on the unit.It is a 4cyl motor with two sets of cyl barrels The barrels have RE101-A cast on them. The cyl head is one piece and has casting #10A2648 on it.On one side of the block i found #10A261.On the other side of the block there is #RE152B.HELP. What is it?Thanks in advance for any info you can pass on as to what model and year it is,and where to look to find out. Thanks again Bruce

Bruce, Close only counts in horse shoes and grenades. The telling number on your friends tractor is the 10A261, this is the casting number for a late R crankcase. The RE152B is the number for the cover, the same as used on a Z, this is what tripped up BMG in his answer. Your friends tractor is a late R. The 10A2648 head would be right for a late R, it wasn't added later. BMG is right in saying that R's, Z's, and even ZA and ZB's shared the blocks and related parts. Jim

Bruce, by the crankcase casting number your friend most likely has a model ZT. Since only the ZT used the RE type engine. The cylinder head casting is from a later model R or Z. Someone probably switched it over time. The cylinder blocks were common between R and Z models. The RE engine in the ZT was 186 ci and the later ZA models used a 206 ci engine. Hope this helps. Check the right side of the trans housing for a serial number tag.

Bruce,

The sn. is located on the right side of the transmission housing (right as you sit on the tractor) roughly under the hand clutch, that I assume this tractor has. Is the head located on the side of the engine? If so this could be a Z. Also there should be a sn. tag on the side of the engine and although this won't be to accurate for the year , it will tell the engine model, bore and stroke, and cubic inch displacement.

Hope this helps! If you have any more questions, post them or contact me. Have a good Thanksgiving!

Roger
