I am a young kid and like all of us, we seem to like to "repower," or up-the-power of tractors. I was simply thinking a few nights about how I could "repower" my tractor besides boring the cylinders and changing the rings as well. I have seen diesels, of course, with turbos and that has become the norm. However, I have seen 2 LP tractors with turbos as well, one was a G-1000 puller from Wisconsin and the other was another G series tractor that was restored. But, I have never seen a gasoline burning tractor with a turbo on it. Can it be done? Think of this, an R or Z series tractor with it. (big joke) Thanks for your help.

Yes you can turbo a gasoline tractor. It is much easier with diesel or LP. Gasoline carburetors are built to have the air drawn though them. The gasoline added to the air makes the air heavier. This slows the compressor wheel of the turbo down, less boost pressure. The alternative is to blow through the carburetor. This is make is difficult to keep fuel in the float bowls. I know somebody is going to come alone and tell us how easy it is. LP is a natural. There is a thing called a balance line that runs between the regulator and the mixer, carb, that allow boost pressure to up the fuel pressure. This automatcally keeps fuel in the carb. Additional reading: "Turbochargers" by Hugh Macinnes. He gets into 3 stages on super stocks with water injection between stages.
