I have a 51 model U. I want more power out of the 283 engine. what is the best way to get more
power? Can I get more cubes out of this engine?
A hotter reground cam ? Dennys recalibrated carb?
I've already installed a M5 2 peice manifold.

If you want a good screwing, get a Dennys carb. You will pay way too much for a peice of junk. I'm surprized of you Dave. I thought you were smarter than that to even think about using Dennys.

I agree with Bill, the carb people are making money off a persons desire to win a pull. Any person who understands theory and operation of a carb can rebuild as well ,as far as ignition , go to a local parts source get high output products for about half and get same results. Electronic ingtion also is as easy. Any napa has the parts for this on the shelf about 25$.

If you want real power ,put in a set of allison 5.5 in. pistons off set grind your crank a set of farmall m rods a reground cam from houser regriding agood set of o6 heads a big bendix carb a msd 6 ing. then hang onto your hat.

There is a multitude of ways to get more h.p. First you need to determine what you can do in the area you plan to compete with this tractor. RPMs? H.P. limits? Speed limits? Weight limits? Number of classes that fit your tractor? When these factors are figured out, then build your tractor to fit the situations. We have seen too many built to fit owners desires only to find there is no place to hook. Carb work is very important, so is cam work, but make sure you know where you are going with plans first. The sky is the limit when building a puller, well maybe the checkbook is too!! There are many ways to make a tractor very competitive without spending a lot of cash. We've built many .
