To Balance New Pistons and Rods, or Not To Balance?

I just got the new pistons for my UB from Welters. They are 4.435 dia, and the note says to make sure you balance the pistons and rods.

I have the engine stock, and will just be running around 2600 rpm max, and pulling at about 1000 rpm. The machine shop and Welters doesn't know if balancing is needed for the change and the low RPM's.

I know the benefits for balancing the engine, but are they worth the $200.00 fee to do this? Will it hurt the engine if it isn't a perfect balance. No engine is perfectly balanced, that's why they have Harmonic Balancers on High RPM engines.

Would like input from anyone who has or has not balanced a "U" after boring and putting in new pistons.

See my new Restoration page on this Minneapolis Moline UB at: http://www.ainop.com/users/cowboys.airranchtwo

I have used .30 oversized pistons in 2 cylindrs of a 6 cyl. engine for 6 years can't see any problems.

Don`t think so, if you were running 6000 7000 RPM`s at 140 mph, I would say yes. But a tractor at 15 mph at 1750 rpm`s no, Put that tractor back togetter and go pull this summer and good luck. Be very careful if by chance you would come up against a Super 88 you could be in trouble. Rick
