Having a heck of a time with this one.

Didn't have the stock ensign and carb for the GVI on propane but had a good century m6 and extra good carb from a 955/705. All hooked up however get a very loud kick back when trying to turn over.

Getting fire to the points and plugs - all good there unless timing is severly off. - Any help?

Thanks,
Eric

I don't see how the carb or regulator could cause it to backfire.

Generally, that is caused by it either being out of time, a couple of plug wires switched, a crack in the mag cap (or water in it), or valves sticky or tight or burnt...

I'd double check the plug wires and timing, set the valves and then try it...

Thanks Howard - will give it another look.

We had this one completely torn down as sat for years - water on top of #5 piston as head had crack. We repaired all and replaced the head with a good one. (cleaned up seats/valves, etc)

We may have valves to tight and will check soon.

I didn"t see it myself but my grandfather noted rust on the bottom of the distributor where it goes into block - hence water sitting in there at some point.

All new wires and plugs (set spacing, etc) but I very well could have a couple switched/or one not put together properly.

Again thank you!
Eric
