Hi all, I recently got to purches a nice 1968 670 super LP. I have a little money left in my budget and would like to aquire one of the old U tractors with the fast gearbox.

My father had one back in the early 50s and I can remember it would go what seemed to be 25-30 mph. It was a UTS and I want to say it had to have been a pre 1942 since he bought it before I was born.

I did not know if the gearbox was an option, or just standard on specific models.

Anyone got one for sale?

Thanks Clive Saddler

Thanks fellows, I cannot recall the shift pettern on dad's old one, but your info tells me something to look for on my search.

Dad traded his off for a really old G on steel wheels in about 1954. The G had lots more power, but the U was a smoother ride and would sure clip down the road faster.

We lost the G to a barn fire a few years after, and it was replaced by an Oliver 99. Also a very strong tractor.

I got permission from the worden (wife) to buy one more tractor for general chores and enjoyablity around the farm. I was thinking one of the fast U models, or other models I was thinking of would be the ZAS, ZASI, UTS , GTC, or U or G diesel.

I will keep watching the classifieds page. Thanks a lot, Clive Saddler

38-42 your in the area some were later look for the shifter to have 3rd and 4th inline in the center position. They were advertised to go 20mph in road gear at rated rpm. The UTU of that era has the same trans. and ring and pinion but the bull gears in the UTS were faster (about 15% to compensate for the shorter tires) upto a certain serial number.
