I saved a G1355 from the junk yard, It is in fair shape. A couple of batteries, fresh oil, and added some hydraulic and it started right up. Everything works but the amp gauge, the speedometer, and the hydraul-shift won't go into low. I pulled the air cleanerand the precleaner looks pretty good, the smaller inner filter is kind of dirty and stamped NOV 1976!! My question is this. I have a MM book that states it is a 1973 model, but with the numbers what else can be told about it? Tractor info: 135-22094 model 242799401 serial Engine info D585-6 45202423

Also any ideas about the hydraul-shift. It shifts right into direct and high, but when you shift to low it seems to stay in direct, it seems to not even try to shift.

When you say it wont shift into the low range on the hydral shift it quits pulling or you cant feel it shift when you shift it to under but when you shift it any other way you can feel it shift our 1755 has about the same unit in it and you cant feel it shift to under but it is there and if you are going down hill it will free wheel and speed up it is like the tractor has to slow down to that speed but when I put a load on there you can feel it hope this helps

The engine serial number can tell you more about the tractor then the frame serial number. The 55 series used warmed over 50 series prefixes, but with one change. The numbers all started at 2000. So looking at the engine serial number it was the 423 one made discounting spare engine during the run if they made any.

So what you are saying is I may have the 421st tractor made as well or just the engine is the 421st made? Do you think the Floyd county museum or someone has a build card or something on it? Does anyone have any idea how many MM G1355 tractors were made? I have heard there were more Oliver and Whites than MM's, but I wonder how many there were? Thanks for the info, Jason

yes, that would mean the 423rd one made to include 2270's. Meaning that engine was the 423rd on built for a tractor installation. Those rear ends would have been also been used on Oliver and Cockshutt tractors with the caterpillar engine.

I would say by the serial tag data that the Oliver way out number the MM's and whites. Im haven't see a engine data tag over 800 before. But there might have been up to 1400 made in different colors with MM engines / Oliver rear ends

One thing I forgot was the White 70 series would have also been in there, but if we are considering clones as the same tractors too then all is well
