I went out to start the 1000 tonight as it hasen't run in a month....When I started it it was running kinda rough and then it started backfiring out the air cleaner and really running rough....Any ideas on this one? I wasn't anticipating this as the engine always ran really good. Oh, this is a 1000 Vista LPG too. Thanks in advance for any help on this matter!

If you want them to last, set them at .012 and .022 HOT

Well, I checked the vent on the regulator and it was clean as a whistle. I popped off the valve covers and found a push rod had jumped out of place causing my backfire. Luckily, it didn't do any damage and I put it back into place and it runs good now. Tonight I will warm it up and set the valves on it. Anyone know what the settings are for intake and exhaust? Thanks!

Have you set the valves in a while? Do you think one might be tight?

You also might have a valve sticking a little... Try letting it suck some oil (a cup or so) into the intake manifold while it is running and see if that helps.

I was running a turboed HD 800 on natural gas one time - a valve started tightening up (didn't know it at the time) causing it to backfire every hour or so - next thing I knew - it had blown half the carburetor off! But it didn't even kill the motor. The gas was free flowing in the proper amount to keep it running full-bore...

Clean out the vent tube on the LP regulator.
