I am looking for information about a Cab on a 1948 Industrial R. I call it a 1/2 Cab. It has a canvas curtain with window on the back and snap in canvas pieces up front. I have seen pictures in sales brochures with a sweeper and snow blade attachments. Was this a standard option or aftermarket?

Tony MM R Ind,

I saw the pictures of your tractor on the other forum. I have the same cab on a 1952 RTI, except mine has a plexiglass window on the top front that curves part way down the front. Mine has only a few scraps of green canvas material left. The fella I bought it from called it a "snow" cab, and it was owned by Western Electric in either their Lincoln or Omaha, NE factories back in the day. Mine came equipped with a Lull Shoveloader and a large ballast box behind and under the seat that serves as a rear platform. My loader has a second tag that says Wm. H. Ziegler Co. Inc.Construction Equipement, and I'm sure mine was sold as a unit - tractor/cab/loader. I would like to think that yours was equipped with a loader also, especially considering those big honkin' wheel weights that you have for ballast. The cab is not a M-M product, I'm quessing the Ziegler Co. had them made or made them. Your fenders are different from mine. I think there are a few more of these cabbed industrials around, I remember there was a conversation about them on this forum a few year back. You should be proud of your tractor, it looks great. My cab has been off the tractor since before I bought it and both need a lot of work. Hope this helps.

Jim

Jim - Thanks for the information! Now I need to dig up some information about the Ziegler Co. The individual I purchased this tractor from said it had a Lull sweeper attachment. He cut it apart and sold it for scrap. From the sales brochures I have seen it looks like the sweeper was used for sweeping snow from sidewalks etc.. The description of "snow cab" is probably correct. I wish I could have had the whole setup. I have a scrap peice of canvas as well, enough for a pattern for the back panel, guessed on the front panels. Thanks again for the reply - Tony
