Hey MM guys, I have a big bore/stroke DC Case and cannot hold starters on it. It is a slip in with a large setbolt with a lock nut. I know that many MM pullers used that style starter and wonder if you guys would help me out. Is there a gear reduction unit that is available in 10 tooth, what is the dimension from the setbolt to the backside of the ring gear?, The setbolt is straight down from the top on a DC so that hole would have to be put in the proper place. I have tried to make a starter out of a 35MT by welding the setscrew/ keyway shaft to the 35MT armature and making a adapter/ bearing plate between the slip in nose and the field Case. This will start the tractor but pops the ends off of the drives, both the Bendix style and the later "accurate" style. This is the only "thorn in the side" that I have had with my puller but it is a real pain!!! D Boll who posts on the TP and Case forum said he is useing a MM 12V with a M&W gear reduction on his DC, the one with the terminal at the back end of the field Case. the drive will have to be strong!!!!! any ideas?? thanks in advance, mEl

Check with D Boll and see where he got his starter, which one or model it came off of, and reduction. He is the source to go to for that information I would say. Good Luck...

Thanks for the response, I have talked to a man named Phil Peterson a while back concerning MM starters, does that name ring a bell with anyone who may be reading this post, I will try to get hold of him, D Boll has no info or spare parts, he just got kinda lucky to get his parts, I have a MM starter that the terminal is in the rear of the case but the cast nose cone is among the missing, the starter was given to me broken, the case is good as is the armature, I would need a cone, and intermediate bearing plate plus a strong drive to get that starter up and running.
