gears hard to shift

I have a 1964 jet star 3 and i just changed the 11 gallons of gear oil. When the engine warms up and i put it in gear then stop with it still in gear and the engine running, it is very hard to shift back out of gear.Does anyone know what is going on here or is this the way these tractors are made?

In MM tractors with an Ampli-Torque in high range (lever forward), if you are going uphill in a foward gear and push in the clutch, the overrunning clutch in the Ampli-Torque prevents the tractor from rolling backward. The same is true when backup uphill in reverse. Even if there is only a slight grade, the gears will be under pressure in those instances. If you move the gearshift lever to neutral before the tractor stops moving, you will find it shifts fairly easy. John

Shift gears with the AT leaver in low range.

I agree. I have an M5 and an M670 super and that makes shifting easier.
