I have a 1964 LP jet star 3.All the guages and valves on the tank have slow leaks. Its going to cost a lot of money to have the leaks repaired. So, i got myself a towmotor LP alluminum tank and had a hose made up,made me a bracket to set the new tank on.My question to all the LP pros out there is do any of you see a problem with this setup if this is working?thanks

thanks follows for your input.I think i have found a forklift tank that has a vapor valve.Just hope it can put out enough to do some bush hogging.I live in Tennessee and its going to be a lot easier to mount this new tank on the side and when it runs out just remove the straps and run it down to the nearest lp fill station.

chuckb - just a couple of points i would like to make; unless the tow motor l.p. tank has a broken dip tube in it, or it is tipped up side down it will pull LIQUID 100% of the time. i dont use LIQUID when running any of my l.p. tractors unless i am plowing. any l.p. tractors usually start better on VAPOR anyway. second point is, new valves or valve kits are not that expensive or hard to replace . locate a l.p. gas dealer in your area and if they are any way customer friendly they will have or will get you the items you need. as far as the guage gasket, same way, they can get it if they dont have it on the shelf. the only caution i can give you about the guage is be very carefull when yoou try to remove the four screws. they can break very easily!!! if you soak up the screws and area under the guage (where the gasket is) with a good penatrant several days before you try to remove them, take your time and you will probably get them out. clean the area where the gasket seats before you put the guage back in. JUST BE CAREFULL WITH L.P. GAS !!! good luck --DEAN--

I wouldn't do it. I have a 62' jetstar that had the same problem. I had both valves kitted for ~$50 and took the guage/sending unit out and replaced the rubber o-ring. She's as good as new now. Just make sure that when you put your valves back in that you use lp grade teflon tape. it is a yellow color instead of white. I found it as my local hardware store. Basically it's just a mil- spec thread tape. Worked like a charm.

If you are going to use a to motor tank you beter get 2 or 3 that way you could make it threw a long weakend if you use it alot and the LP plase is closed and dont forget they hold less than half what the tractor tank holds and it will always run out when you are as far from the house or truck as you are going to get that day
