I have seen some pics of a UB with live PTO. It had something extra near the left brake drum as I recall. Anyone know of this option? Can it be added to a UB without live PTO? Of course finding the parts might be a trick....

If you are going to make a complete switch in ether direction you will have to take off the diff cover and remove the axel bull gear to remove the housing. There is a cutout in the housing that the bull gear enters to make contact with the pinion gear. If you just take the guts out of the housing there is nothing for the brake to work against. This was an Asco-Lambert umit, MH aslo used the same thing and they were available as an add on for other tractors. It is not LIVE PTO you can not control the PTO at will. It was called Continuos PTO, because you could stop the forward motion of the tractor and the PTO would continue runing.

You will not need to split the tractor, nor do you need to pull the LH axle. I believe you can just pull the brake housing. You may need to take off the transmission top cover . . .but I'm not sure. I had the top cover off both times that I tore into one, but I don't remember if it's necessary. Anyone?

I have a late U and a UB (Both have disk brakes). They both have the live PTO option. I've had both of them apart and it looks like the parts are the same. The live PTO on the U has been disabled by a prior owner. He removed the linkage, drilled and drove four 1/2" roll pins through the clutch assembly to make it solid.

To add the live PTO system to a non-live PTO tractor, you will need to replace the LH bull pinion assembly, the LH brake housing and all the brake and clutch components within, and add the lever assembly. It's not a difficult job. Removing the platform and the left fender and wheel would make it easier.

I would think you could add it to a tractor that didn't have it. I'm in the process of taking it off of mine.

I'm taking off of my UB. I am trying to simplify my drive line and lose some weight for pulling. As of right now I have nothing to run off of the PTO, so I won't miss it.

The item I believe you are refering to was a live pto option on the UBs and earlier MMs. If you are removing it, you will need to remove and replace the bull pinion with one from a tractor that was not built with live power. Else, you will not be able to drive your left side wheel. To properly close everything, you may also want to get the correct brake housing and cover.
