I have a customer that has a Big MO III forklift that was built for the military. I think the engine is a 220-4 gas. I am looking for a replacement engine and was wondering if anyone has one or if anyone can tell me if a 206-4 engine would work. The crankshaft is broke and he was looking at a complete replacement. There is a number on the block which I think is a serial number #1900204. Thanks.

When and if we get a replacement, I could ask the customer for you on that question. I know the crank was broke, but I do not know if the journal was ruined. If interested, let me know and I will find out for you. We are located in NW North Dakota and the customer is from N.E. Montana.

Having done this on a Big MO 400 Military:

A 206H or 206L will work, but you need to be sure you have a starter that bolts in the crankcase and works with the ring gear on the flywheel.

Some starters use a bendix and are retained in the crankcase with a setscrew. Other starters use a solenoid-operated drive and are retained to the crankcase by three bolts.

I can't prove the ring gears/flywheels interchange by comparing part numbers in the parts books.

This issue gets very important if your forklift has a torque converter in it, because the flywheel would probably have a special bolt pattern to mount the torque converter.
