Well I bought a 4 star today and not sure if it was smart or not. I'm a Case fan and have been for many years. However my father has an old uni tractor with low hours on and the picker on it is too slow for today's yields. parked it 7-10 years ago. Found a 4 star that needs a motor. So I'll make one good tractor out of it (I hope) I'll keep this board informed of my progress when I get it home(when the snow drifts melt some). Anyone have anything good/bad to say about the 4 stars? It has the 206 L4 motor and a wide front end. I will be inquiring about paint and decals when I get her up to speed. Any info would be greatly appreciated. What are the two aluminum levers for under the seat? Hydraulics? and the steel lever to the left side of the operator?

You must have a brown mule. They can be more valueable then just parts in the roght condition. if I found one close to Wichita with a w4 combine it would make my year..

Nedd, The 2 levers control the lift speed, the lever on the left is the "live power takeoff". I might be interested in the UNI, where are you located? Thanks, John

I'm in central Iowa but the UNI is in western Iowa. Well after looking over the 4 star stuff on the net. It must be a super but I don't have fenders for it or the correct wide front end. It has the power adjust wheels and extra "external" hydraulics and it is rough. SN 16601628 I would need a jug for a 206 to think about salvaging the motor that is on it. I see the are several numbers for Minneapolis Moline salvage yards. Just can't believe I'm so interested in this and it's not a Case...

Nedd,
4 Star Supers came with a fuel gage, cigarette lighter, speedometer and fender lights with additional switch in dash. You could not get these options on a regular 4 Star. Power steering and power adjust rear wheels were options for the regular 4 Star but standard on the Super versions. Supers also came with the larger wrap over M5 style fenders w/ lights where as the regular 4 Star came with smaller clamshell type fenders w/o lights. The seat came with underride on all Supers but was optional on regular 4 Stars.

I hope this info helps you identify your tractor. Email me if you have more questions.

Brian

I have seen a picture of a 4 Star with a seat like the 5 Stars ( armrests included )I think they called it a deluxe seat. Have you seen any of the same pictures? Is that the underride you are referring to? I think the regular seats would be more comfortable than the 5 Star style. I didnt know they had an extra switch on the dash for fender lights, good to know.

Alan,
The switch and seat info came from the dealer order guide. I believe the underride seat was the spring loaded type that you see on most G705/6 etc but I don't know what the base 4 Star seat should look like. My Super has underride since it was standard. I'm lead to believe the base 4 Star seat was just like the Super but not spring loaded (underride). I haven't seen a 4 Star with a 5 Star type seat. Haven't seen a lot of 4 Stars though so who knows.

Ill see if I can find the piece of lit and send you a picture of the 4 Star Im talking about. I looked in the parts book so I could be confused, as if I wasnt confused enough. Now you have me wondering. I thought all the 4 Stars, super and non super had the M5, G705 etc. seats.

I looked at my literature and I think your right. On a side view of a 4 Star and 4 Star Super, the backrest of the seat is visible on the Super, where the regular 4 Star no part of the seat is visible, even with the regular fenders. The seat must sit lower. I never paid attention to that before...thanks for the info. The underride is listed that it can be purchased factory installed or not installed. Weight of 20 pounds.
